Scripture-code or γεματρία = gematría is a play with letters and numbers,
the modern term being ἀριθμολογία = arithmología = arithmology.

Scripture-code developed out of the situation where many of the ancient languages used the letters of their alphabets as their number systems. Therefore, in such cases, words and phrases could carry a numerical value with a hidden or esoteric meaning.

Scripture-code can also be applied to the quadrivium of
   arithmetic, geometry, harmonics, and astronomy.

Scripture-code has numerous ways in which letters and numbers can be associated.
   1) Isopsēphía = ἰσοψηφία (ἴσοϛ = ísos = equal + ψῆφοϛ = psēphos = pebble) (from pebbles being used for counting).
      When the value of one word/phrase equals the value of another word/phrase.
   2) Ḥurufism: عِلْم الْحُرُوف = ‘iLM ’aL-ḤuRūWF = science of the letters (and numbers).
      When the value of one word/phrase equals the value of another word/phrase.
   3) Gematría = γεματρία (γεωμετρία = geōmetría = earth measure) or (Mother Earth = γή = gē = earth + μήτηρ = mḗtēr = mother)
      When the value of one word/phrase equals the value of another word/phrase or the value in geometry, harmonics, and astronomy.
   4) גִּימַטְרִיָּה = GīYMaTRhīYyāH = Gematría
      When the value of one word/phrase equals the value of another word/phrase or the value in geometry, harmonics, and astronomy.
